Experience
Experienced in privately tutoring grade school students in Mathematics and Science. The subjects I have tutored in the past include: High school: - Pre-Calculus (International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, and Honors) - Geometry - Trigonometry - Algebra Middle school: - Pre-Algebra - Science - English Elementary school: - Math (multiplication and division) I have always excelled in mathematics and science and find one-on-one tutoring to be the most rewarding experience. Of all the students I have tutored, those who put in the effort to study and practice demonstrated significant improvement in their courses. My proudest achievement was a student I tutored in Algebra for an entire school year every week. When I began tutoring him at the beginning of the term, he had a D average, and by the end of the term, he finished with an A in the class. In all the mathematics courses taken throughout school, Algebra is the single most important subject that will either make or break someone in their understanding and grasp of mathematics for the rest of their lives. If a student does not understand Algebra, it is unlikely that student will ever grasp any type of higher level math. My students are my inspiration and I have never viewed them as a paycheck. I feel that every student I tutor is my contribution to the future of our society. I believe that everyone who tells me that they were never good in math had the potential to be, but were not blessed with good teachers and the attention they needed to master the subject. While Algebra is my favorite subject to tutor, I also am confident in tutoring any level of math or science courses from grade school to core curriculum undergraduate coursework. Both my M.S. and B.S. degrees were in Biology, so I'm also able to tutor in any biological science courses. My technique when tutoring students is opening their eyes to how what they are doing applies to real-world scenarios. I've found that when students have an understanding for why they are learning something and how it can be applied, they almost always excel.

Hobbies
I am an outdoor enthusiast. In the course of my Masters degree, I completed my research thesis on the population genetics of turtles. My work involved getting muddy and searching for turtles in salt marshes. I've also worked in the woods studying gopher tortoises. Reptiles are my favorite animals to work with, but I am a lover of all animals. I enjoy kayaking, fishing, SCUBA diving, and nature walks. Indoors I enjoy cooking, baking, knitting, reading, writing, and painting.
